Conversation between doctor and patient about about Transcranial Magnetic Disorder

After experiencing a good response to transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) treatment, it is advisable to attend regular check-ups with your doctor.

These check-ups help consolidate the improvement and plan what to do if the symptoms of depression return.

Why is a check-up after the EMT advisable?

Many people who improve with TMS are able to remain stable without further treatment for at least a year. However, some patients may experience a return of depressive symptoms after initially responding well.

In these cases, the doctor may choose to repeat TMS.

These additional sessions—sometimes called booster or rescue sessions—are often effective, especially if the person responded well to the initial treatment.

Furthermore, when TMS is reintroduced at the beginning of a relapse, fewer sessions are generally needed to regain mood stability.

Maintenance magnetic transcranial stimulation sessions

Some people may also benefit from maintenance sessions, that is, treatments scheduled every few weeks to maintain the improvement.

The frequency is decided jointly by the patient and their doctor, depending on individual needs.

The doctor may also recommend the use of medications, such as antidepressants, to strengthen recovery, manage the recurrence of symptoms, or prevent further relapses.

In short, many patients maintain their improvement after TMS without needing additional treatments, and for those who experience a return of symptoms, TMS remains a useful tool for regaining well-being.
